Enticing and complex aromas and flavors of wild berry, cherry, rose, sandalwood are married to a firm structure. The overall impression is one of harmony and finesse, with a lingering aftertaste.
The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Sentiers was touched by the frost and the old vines here suffered according to Nicolas Groffier. Due to depleted quantities it is 100% whole bunch fruit matured in one-third new oak. It has a lifted bouquet with blackberry, black cherry and hints of blue fruit, a subtle mineral tension underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a strict, quite saline entry, rather peppery thanks to the stem addition. A structured but fresh finish that is complex and cerebral rather than willing to please at this early stage. Cellar this away for a decade and I believe it will repay your patience.
