From the Archive
Located next to Volnay, the terroir of Rugiens is one of most famous of Pommard with its name derived from the word "rougion" - the red of the earth. With sunny southeast exposure, this site is well protected from wind which provides the power and complexities of a well matured wine. On a surface area of just .2ha, the vines are very old, planted in 1935. Hand-harvested into small crates, yields are around 25 hL/ha. Fermentation takes place naturally in gravity fed vats with indigenous yeasts and about a 15 day maceration time. After one racking without pump, bottling is done without fining or filtration.
