The limestone soils of Chambertin have the same ratio of fine earth to pebbles (68 to 32 percent) as Montrachet and—like the Montrachet wines—Chambertin has the potential to age magnificently. This rich, generous wine is selected from a half-hectare (1.2-acre) plot at the extreme north end of the 12.9-hectare (32-acre) vineyard, at an altitude of 275 to 300 meters (900 to 985 feet).

Chambertin: small 1 hectare plot at extreme northern end of the vineyard Colour: dense garnet; Bouquet: brooding, animal, inky, forest floor; Palate: dense and unyielding; strong tannin profile.

The wine finds some of its focus with time in the glass. A round, textured finish supported by muscular yet well-integrated tannins is totally inviting. Floral notes add an attractive note of brightness. Nevertheless, this is a highly promising wine. Damoy's Chambertin parcels were planted in 1973 and 1974.
