The Clos De Beze Grand Cruin grand cru vineyard faces east on a well-drained, gentle slope on the lower hillside east of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. It is said that the small Notre Dame de Bèze chapel on this site was intentionally burned in the 1830s so that the land could be planted to more vines. This wine comes from a 2.2-hectare (5-acre) plot covered with thin, stony, limestone soils, around the original La Chapelle vineyard; the vines were planted in 1947. The bouquet is disarmingly hedonistic, with hints of violets and honeysuckle layering the opulent, dark-cherry expression. The palate demonstrates quintessential elegance— silk on velvet—with delicious length to the dark fruit and earth flavors.
