Shibumi Knoll is a boutique California wine producer founded in 2003 by Don and Joann Ross after purchasing a small knoll just north of St. Helena in Napa Valley. It included a .75‑acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, a stone‑barn cottage, a guesthouse, and a modest winery, all of which has been carefully restored into their family home. The estate vineyard, planted in rocky soils and managed by David Abreu, produces Cabernet Sauvignon that speaks clearly of its unique terroir. The name Shibumi Knoll is inspired by the concept of “Shibumi,” a Japanese term meaning effortless perfection through simplicity([shibumiknoll.com](https://shibumiknoll.com/our-story/?utm_source=openai)).
Beyond the estate Cabernet, Shibumi Knoll is known for sourcing Chardonnay fruit from the historic Buena Tierra Vineyard in the Russian River Valley and Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast sites, all vinified by Thomas Rivers Brown. These wines emphasize clarity, balance, and site expression. The Buena Tierra vines are more than 50 years old and were preserved thanks to Don’s early commitment to purchase their fruit. Thomas Rivers Brown’s guiding philosophy of minimal intervention allows the character of these vineyards to shine through in every release([napawineproject.com](https://www.napawineproject.com/shibumi-knoll-vineyards/?utm_source=openai)).
